The interception of location data during transfer over the Internet is a significant security threat to LBS. While secure TCP connections are implemented within Java through Secure Socket Layer (SSL), the implementation of secure UDP is left to the application developer. We currently use the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) to encrypt location data as it is transferred using UDP to ensure a secure LBS.
